What Is DAS in Blackjack

DAS, or Double After Split, is a relatively common blackjack rule that lets you double down on each card in a split pair. That may sound like too much blackjack lingo in one sentence, so let's break it down:

When you're dealt two cards of the same rank, you can split them into two separate hands. If one of those hands looks win-worthy, you can double down, meaning that you add another bet and get one more card for that hand.

Similar Terms in Blackjack

DAS is not to be confused with the following:

  • DA2 (Double on Any Two). This simply lets you double down on any two cards you’ve been dealt at the start of the round.
  • Deck Penetration. A term to describe the number of cards from one deck already used in the game. The higher the penetration, the easier card-counting becomes (but only in single-deck games).
  • Double Down. A classic blackjack move – you agree to receive only one more card for your hand and double the amount of your initial bet.

How Often Can You Use DAS in Blackjack?

If the rules of a particular game variation permit that, you can opt for DAS in Blackjack each time you split a pair. However, you should only do so when you have a truly promising hand.
